The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Zamfara State Chapter under the leadership of Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki, commends the landmark judgment delivered yesterday by the Federal High Court, Abuja, presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, which sacked Hon. Sulaiman Abubakar Gummi, Member representing Gummi/Bukkuyum Federal Constituency, for defecting from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This was contained in a statement issued by the Zamfara State PDP Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi.
According to the statement, the courageous judgment is a victory for democracy, justice, and the sanctity of the ballot as It reaffirms that political power belongs to the people and not individuals who betray the mandate freely given to them under one political platform for personal gain.
“The court’s directive to the Speaker of the House of Representatives to declare the seat vacant and to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election within 30 days is a clear warning to all political office holders who may contemplate defection without lawful justification.” the statement said.
“Dr. Jamil Jibo Magayaki applauds Justice Egwuatu for his firm stand in defending constitutional order and protecting Nigeria’s democracy from opportunistic politics. The PDP assures the good people of Gummi/Bukkuyum that the party remains steadfast and will present a credible candidate who will continue to champion their interests and uphold the principles of good governance.”
“The PDP also reiterates its commitment to the rule of law and democratic accountability, urging all public office holders to respect the mandate of the people and the supremacy of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” the statement concluded.
