A tragic boat accident has led to the deaths of fifteen people in the Gummi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
Reports indicate that the boat was overloaded with residents from Danmaga, Tungar Maigunya, and Nadarawar Kifi villages who were trying to escape to a nearby community due to fears of attacks by local bandits.
Aliyu Adamu, the Deputy Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly and representative for Gummi II Constituency, confirmed the incident. He mentioned that twenty individuals have been rescued alive while efforts continue to find others who are still missing.
Meanwhile, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has expressed his condolences to the affected communities and the Gummi Emirate following this tragedy.
In a statement, the Governor offered prayers for those who lost their lives and ordered immediate relief supplies for the families of the deceased.
