The National Assembly Member representing Maru/Bungudu Federal Constituency, Hon. Abdulmalik Zubairu (Zannan Bungudu) has flagged off the distribution of grant and cash assistance worth one point five billion Naira to his constituents as part of activities rounding off the celebration of his two year anniversary in office.
The event held in his home town Bungudu took palce amid the recent ban on all political activities announced by Zamfara State Government ostensibly due to the prevailing security challenges bedeviling the State.
A statement issued this Saturday by Senior Special Assistant to Zamfara State Governor on Broadcast Media, Press and Public Affairs, Mustapha Jafaru Kaura reads partly “this is to inform the Public for information and guidance,particularly politicians across all political devides in the state that owing to the precarious security situation in the state and with the recent security breach in Maru local government area of the state and in careful consideration of the fact the the political season has not yet started everywhere in the country , the Executive Governor of the state Dr Dauda Lawal has Banned all political activities or rallies in the state till further notice”.
According to the statement, “the ban is with immediate effect even as the security Agencies in the state have been directed to crack down on any recalcitrant politician/group of politicians that failed to comply with this directive”.
Hon. Zanna and his political associates who believed that the ban was politically motivated however went on with the event as earlier scheduled.
Speaking at the occasion, the Lawmaker said he had formally notified all the relevant security agencies about the event which was solely meant to distribute some cash as a welfare package to some of his constituents.
” If this is what they consider as a political gathering, it is just the beginning as I will not relent in my commitment to putting smile on the faces of my constituents” Hon Zanna said
He also alledged that some political thugs had attacked some of the APC stalwarts and supporters on their way from Gusau to Bungudu, venue of the event.
This is unacceptable. We, the APC supporters are known to be peace loving and law abiding, but we cannot continue to tolerate this as no one has monopoly of violence” Hon Zanna warned.
In the meantime, Zamfara State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called on the Police to apprehend those directly or indirectly involved in attacking attendees of the grand finale of Federal Lawmaker’s commissioning of projects as part of his Two Year Anniversary, held in Bungudu town.
A statement issued by the State APC Publicity Secretary, Yusuf İdris Gusau reads in part
“The criminals openly and strategically stationed themselves along Gusau/Bungudu road to perpetrate the attack which led to the destruction of many vehicles and wounding of the occupants simply because they are APC members”
“The Zamfara State chapter of the APC therefore wishes to totally condemn the attack, implore the police and other security agencies to immediately swing into action by arresting the perpetrators and bringing them to face the consequences of their actions or we will henceforth be forced to defend ourselves against anyone or group that charges against any of our members or property” the statement said
The statement however urged APC members to remain patient as the party will ensure justice is done to all those attacked and those who sustained injuries or had their properties destroyed.
